One of the best things that could happen to news at KTTV was the big adios of Carlos Amezcua from the afternoon and nightly broadcasts. This resulted in a major breather for FOX KTTV Execs and Management to make some very serious changes, anchor wise. Bob Decastro and Tony McEwing are two of my favorite news anchors, Jeff Michaels too where the guys are concerned. These guys are all comfy as anchors or doing specialty reports and are very well balanced for their roles at KTTV. Carlos adios opened opportunities and a smart likeable chap, Bob Decastro’s time had come. In my opinion, long overdue and the management saw it was right too. Bob paired with Araksya Karapetyan was a perfect match up. In fact Araksya seems even happier then with Tony. So that fixed up the morning news a lot by pulling a younger couple together and lots of fun. Bob is very well balanced, a likeable personality and should do well for a long time unless some stupid vegetable screws it all up, something other than broccoli 😉 that’s a big hint.
In the case of Tony joining the very tall Christine Devine. Tony’s a big guy, has a great personality (I just love it, the dude is spot on) and he matches up very well with Christine Devine as well, one of the longtime top anchors in SoCal. Of course since Christine is 19 feet 6 inches tall, Tony better not go overboard or she can cancel his ass faster than a postage stamp with a foot stomp 😮
Not to worry though, Tony has swami powers (he rode a camel as a maharajah) and can waive his fingers and chant out “TAKEETS” and then the only thing Christine can do is offer him guacamole and he will smile again. Then the nightly news will be restored back to normal. That said, my feelings are that the nightly news with Tony and Christine and the smoking hot Liz Habib (an Aries 😉 ) will do well.
Okay so there are local as well as national issues. I would first fix the morning okay at KTTV since it needs it big time in my humbled opinion. I have discussed this here numerous times but here goes again for the late comers. Morning schedule.
5am to 8am News, got it!
8am to 11am GDLA as an entertainment, not news show, got it!
11am thru 12pm News.
12 to 2 acquire All my Children and One Life To Live soap operas stick em on FOX nationally and gain instantly tens of millions of viewers. ABC (Always Bolshevik Crap) screwed up big and well, why not.
Crappy shows from 2pm thru 5pm.
Major news locally 5pm.
World News at 6PM.
Game shows at 7PM, then prime time.
10PM Christine Devine and “Dummyhead Instead” to spice things up until he apologizes for inferring that all bloggers are clowns including his “BOSS” Mr. Rupert Murdoch.
11PM Acquire Jay Leno and call it the 21st Century Tonight Show, screw NBC (Nothing But Crap) for being stupid enough to discard the best late night talk host.
1am in the morning give Jillian Barberie an exotic dating game show where she can cut loose.
Do that and FOX can fix L.A. and coast to coast viewers for good.
For years I have blogged about GDLA and the morning FOX news lineup and the ratings continue to sink. I have pointed out what can be done to fix them and no more posts on the work. If you want to find out what’s broken and what needs to be fixed, goto the GDLA Bash and look up my past archived posts. You can replace this person and that person, but until you fix the underlying problems, no amount of fresh talent nor money will bring viewers, it’s that plain and simple. What worked in the past no longer works now. You can run over 5 hours of morning news then another two hours through midday and hold viewers. Sorry, it doesn’t work. If this is what KTTV execs want, then why not make everything from 4AM in the morning through 1PM in the afternoon constant news? In essence KTTV is a consistent “news-only” channel and nothing more and it DOES NOT WORK…..GOT IT?
Yeah Steve screamed for Gina Silva back. She should have been the anchor in Sanson’e seat and Lisa Breckenridge should have been the entertainment anchor, you have the local talent. Promote them locally…NOT!
So viewers to GDLA continue to tune in if at all for a few minutes, catch the weather or news and then disappear altogether. They are being trained that GDLA is news and weather and after a few minutes are gone. That fault falls directly on the KTTV execs and Newscorp execs that allow and encourage it. KTLA in Los Angeles consistently beats FOX hands down and every time or most times that FOX loses talent, guess where they end up? You got it guys. FOX is today’s yesteryear KTLA and KTLA is today’s yesteryear KTTV and this is a very serious issue with long-term ramifications if not fixed early on.
Can it all be fixed for FOX in the mornings? Yes! Are FOX execs aware of what they have to fix? No! Are they reading these blogs to see what is going on and where to fix things? Unsure. Some people are, at least the smart ones with common sense. Otherwise everyone else with management decisions is like an ostrich with their heads in the ground. Careful, the Dingos are coming.
