The Real Problem For Hollywood Talents.

I argued with an old friend who at one time was the head of an entertainment guild in Hollywood. What I told him was there was no real mechanism for bringing talents together with productions. No way to really search what is out there, either by veterans or new talents or old talents seeking to enter as new talents πŸ˜‰ again!

The main problem like in the case of writers is there is just nothing there. You have a dwindling group of agents with whom it’s nearly impossible to get in with if you are established in some form or another and if you aren’t, next to no chance at all. You could have the greatest story in the world but the barriers are enormous. Now to play devil’s advocate here, let me say they are constantly flooded by both legitimate people as well as a great many people who turn from nice-nice into assholes! That’s when tempers can flare, bad things get said, people’s blood pressure skyrockets and I can only say if someone didn’t get a heart attack – Praise the Lord!

But the problems still persist. I told the head of this guild aka. union I had a way to fix this. Use their repository database to make it available to assist production execs in locating the exact story materials they really wanted. Do it online, register them so you know who looked at what and then go from there. See, here is the problem. You can lead a cat in the hat to green eggs and ham, but you can’t make him eat.

Here is what I am saying. They hate being solicited even when there is a great story or acting or directing talent before them and worse, there is no real mechanism other than whispering word of mouth to get the talents and what they offered recognized. Of course once someone hits it big, then the age old story that the whole world laughs with you becomes a reality.

The key to success is be at the right place in front of the right people all at the right time. It is rare but it can happen and never, never give up, regardless of what your talent is. A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.

California Dreamin’ now a nightmare

By Edward B. Driscoll, Jr. Everything about California – from its nickname (the Golden State) to its illustrious locales (Hollywood and Silicon Valley) and its lush vineyards (Napa Valley) – screams success. The state has been a bastion of American progress and a fertile field of dreams for much of its history. Unfortunately for California, its… Continue reading

The roots of Black Lives Matter unveiled

Editor’s Note: This is a special report from the AIM Center for Investigative Journalism. By James Simpson The Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) casts itself as a spontaneous uprising born of inner city frustration, but is, in fact, the latest and most dangerous face of a web of well-funded communist/socialist organizations that have been agitating against… Continue reading

Broccolihead Early On That Morning.

So to illustrate how bad it was at KTTV. It was early morning and I swear I was half asleep. Picked up the controller for the TV, hit the power button and it came on. Got the news, with Tony and the new skinny one. It seemed everything was working out until lo and behold, Broccolihead with a microphone. Now this is the bigshot (so-called – still in doubt Veep) of Fox, or so they claim. Probably the Veep of KTTV not the entire FOX network. I know the guy is reading this so I’ll just throw out the hypothetical to dipshine that I πŸ˜‰ got it right. More like a General Manager (dreaming of-) V.P. wannabe.

So the guy has the microphone and I am wondering why isn’t the erhmm (so-called) Veep running his station, not creating work by having a field reporter do the job. Must have been fun, aye Broccolihead getting your 15 minutes of fame??? So I said to myself “Oh God, this can’t be happening,” with one eye open, my head on a nice pillow. But it got worse. Here, let’s get the jest of what I thought I heard in a fictional sense.

B: You sir, what do you think about water?

R: It’s wet

B: You ma`am what do you think about California’s drought?

R: It’s Dry

B: You old timer, what do you think of Governor Jerry Brown?

R: Medfly

B: You young man, what do you think of rain?

R: Toilets

B: And there you have it folks. Governor Brown, build desalination plants, stop building railroads to nowhere. Your General (cough) Manager at KTTV.

Honestly people, I about had a heart attack. I was saying to myself. “No, no, no I can’t take this crap in the morning. Why doesn’t he just run the God Damned station?” Well, time bore out the problem here. He was on his way out and eventually left, because he wasn’t managing the station properly. which brings me to my next point about KTTV especially where mornings are concerned.

It still is not managed right. Employee strikes they even have a webpage, then there is the morning lineup, not to mention the worst weather format of any local stations. Then we get to GDLA, several viewers said it is unwatchable, they usually stop watching after a few gimmicks have run their course. Like for example the right or wrong important not important where a question or two is asked in a mockup FAKE den. Happens so fast you wonder why such a big deal was made of it. Then there is the guests. Honestly, most people find celebs talking about themselves boring and in fact many viewers actually resent it. A greater percentage of the American viewers hate the ‘pat-themselves-on-the-back’ segments especially if the celebrity has made any type of political statement. The entire show remains undefined, what is it? News, entertainment, educational or a general mish-mash and a wild morning party sort of thrown in?

I hate to be the bearer of bad views here, but it’s not just me, it is many people. LET ME BE VERY CLEAR here. It is not the performers on camera nor the production crew (what’s left of their skeleton status) but rather the format and this goes right back to the top brass both at KTTV and beyond that right to Newscorp at the very executive level.

What amazes me is that they are aware of the numerous issues and continue to ignore them. What is Good Day L.A.? Who are the viewers? Why is everything quick, cheap and gimmicky? Ultimately it’s that finger on the clicker and viewers see that, this is what happens…

Maria Quiban

A moment of prayer for Maria, and her husband’s spirit…

So to show you I am a bit late on things, the lovely Maria Quiban the weather gal at KTTV has lost her husband. It happened perhaps during the worst time of year for any such loss especially losing a significant other. I don’t think words can describe what this poor lady has been put through, so on that note, my heart goes out to her that she finds peace and understands it can be partially healed over time. That said, I have to commend Mr. Rick Dickert on standing in. He actually has shown himself to be very professional as weather anchor and in fact I have to say, I thought he was fantastic, even if he remains a…erhmmm, donutphobe of sorts.

Donut Phobe

Okay, enough of my antics. One day Rick will come to his sensus and have a ‘Sticky Fingers’ cronut.

My previous blog complaint on the KTTV weather took no offense with Maria Quiban nor Rick Dickert. Instead it illustrated there is a serious small, but important flaw on the weather format which isn’t the fault of the performer, but rather a weather map. KTTV has chosen not to fix this. But in doing so, it provides an inferior product to every other weathercast on local news. You will find my former blog on this post here…

This is small but I illustrated what the main problem was. So it has nothing to do with the presenter and everything to do with the weather producer at KTTV. Burbank to Thousand Oaks California is a 35 mile gap with almost 3 million people being disenfranchised by that gap on the big temperature map. What it should show is the Van Nuys Civic Center temps, which it does not. Think I am wrong, check out my old topic and again, please hold a prayer for Misses Quiban and her lost loved one. It is with hopes she makes a speedy recovering from this great loss in her life and that of course, comes from the heart!
