The switch from chain drive to geared drive shafts has grown exponentially over the last few years and it continues to grow with no end in sight. Now for those that thought a bicycle has a chain, it does, but the times, they are a changin’ or dare I say Chaining.
Now for those who have never seen a bicycle with a drive shaft here is a photo.
Simple direct drive and yes they make rear wheel hub systems with built in transmission for multiple gearing speeds. Shafts are not brand new per se, rather they have been around a very long time, but their usage in the newer cycles we are seeing and in the numbers bespeak something quite different. Will drive shafts replace chain drive systems? I do not believe they will, but over the coming years, more manufacturers will gravitate towards this form of energy transfer for those pedaling.
So what does it look like in action? Well, lets take a gander at it.
And what do others think of drive shafts on bicycles? Well, lets watch a few tubes and hear the rider’s opinions.
And there you have it. New bicycles, no more chains on the go and efficiency too.
